I am often asked, “How do I find my soul purpose in this lifetime?” That is a GREAT question and if you are asking yourself the same question, then this is a sign that you are spiritually awakening!
I believe we have many lifetimes and during each lifetime, whether that occurs here on Earth or on another planet or in another Universe, we are sent to learn lessons to evolve our souls. We accomplish this by fulfilling our soul purpose. There are some things out of our control and are destined to occur, but for the most part, we as human beings on Earth have free will. And with free will comes the freedom of choice. That’s the beauty of living here! For many of us, we get to choose our paths. However, with choice always comes responsibility. Therefore, we have the responsibility of making choices that align with our soul purpose. (Philosophy was always interesting to me but could also be very overwhelming! For those of you who learn better with visuals, I created the Soul Purpose Tree image below to explain this concept.)
False Beliefs About Finding & Fulfilling Your Soul Purpose
I think there are a couple of misconceptions out there when it comes to finding your soul purpose:
Your soul purpose is very specific.
What I have found in working with clients, is that a person’s soul purpose is usually something broad, such as ‘learning to love’ or ‘leading’ or ‘service’. A lot of people come to me wanting a very specific answer such as ‘your soul purpose is to be a doctor.’ Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way! That is part of your journey here in this lifetime. The beauty of having free will and freedom of choice though is that you get to decide and pursue whichever path you choose to fulfill that purpose. There are many, many different paths you can take in life that will fulfill your purpose, so the world is your oyster essentially! Being a doctor may be one way you could fulfill your purpose, but you get to choose that path. As long as you stay true to yourself and your purpose, then any path you choose will bring you joy, fulfillment, love, and peace.
If too many options or vagueness frustrates the heck out of you, think of it as a relief and a sense of freedom, because it’s much simpler than you think. If your purpose here is to love for example, then you get to choose how you learn to love yourself and others through the choices you make in career, family, friendships, hobbies, spirituality, etc. Just the very act of signing up for a monthly yoga class is showing yourself love and fulfilling your purpose! It’s that easy! I don’t know about you, but that takes the pressure off and makes me feel a whole lot better!
You must do something grand to fulfill your soul purpose.
Many times, clients have come to me worried they aren’t doing enough, because they aren’t doing something grand, such as starting a non-profit or inventing a product or moving to a third world country to help the needy. All those things are amazing and there are people out there who feel called to follow those paths. We definitely need those people!
However, that doesn’t mean everyone is meant to do those things. If learning to love is your soul purpose, then your chosen path may be to have a family or it may be to volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about or to start your own business. If your soul purpose is to help others, then your chosen path could be in mental health, social work, medicine, teaching, healing, volunteering, the arts, etc. All these paths are equally as important and will still make a significant impact in this lifetime and will still bring you closer to Source and your True Self.
How to Find Your Soul Purpose
Ok, so now that you have cleared those false beliefs, the question still remains, how do I know what my soul purpose is? There are many ways to figure this out for yourself, but each person’s journey is unique to them and this process can take time. Often, people figure this out purely through experience and wisdom. But the information is available to you now, you just have to access it! Below are a few ways you can discover your true calling:
Start Meditating. You’ve probably heard this a million times, but I cannot stress enough the importance of taking time out for yourself to listen to your inner guidance. The more you practice, the more second nature it will become. You will start to receive intuitive hits and ah’has throughout your day even when you’re not meditating. Connecting with your True Self and the Divine will help you become more aware of your gifts and passions, which will in turn lead you down the right path toward fulfilling your soul purpose. (If you struggle with meditating, stay tuned for an upcoming blog on How to Meditate.)
Follow Your Bliss. If you have noticed you are gifted in music or art or maybe you have a huge passion for building things, then follow your bliss! Usually, the things we are good at or interested in are the things that will help us fulfill our true purpose. For example, I love reading and learning about anything spiritual. I have been interested in all things mystical ever since I was a little kid. I have always been drawn to meditation, new age music, crystals, nature, etc. This has been a central and consistent theme all throughout my life. I always knew I wanted to help people too. I know in my heart my purpose here is to bring light, love, beauty, and compassion to others, and I chose to fulfill this purpose through energy healing. I followed my bliss and started Soul Healing with Ali!
Seek an Intuitive Reading. If you want a quick answer, then go directly to the Source and ask your spirit guides! There are many tools intuitives use to connect with your higher self and guides, such as Tarot or Oracle card readings, mediumship (connecting with deceased loved ones and ancestors), dowsing, tea leaves, etc. In my Soul ALIgnment program, in addition to connecting with my clients’ guides, I always do at least one Akashic Record reading to help bring clarity to my clients’ burning questions, such as ‘What is my soul purpose in this lifetime?’ Your Akashic guides provide valuable information and guidance to help remind you of your beautiful soul and help you stay on the right path toward love, light, and serenity.
See an Energy Healer. Many times, people have a difficult time figuring out their soul purpose because their energy fields are out of balance or blocked, preventing them from seeing clearly or listening to their hearts. The emotions and pain from past traumas can get stuck in your energy system causing blockages. Through energy healing, such as Reiki, Healing Touch, acupuncture, sound healing, Qi Gong, etc. your energy system is cleared and balanced, allowing your natural life force energy to flow easily and freely. When you are balanced, your heart opens to new possibilities and perspectives, allowing you to imagine and pursue the life you have always wanted to live.
Calculate Your Life Path Number. This is another service I provide all my clients. Using Numerology, I calculate my clients’ life path number based on their birth date and name, which explains their strengths, challenges, life purpose, and common career paths for this lifetime. It’s really fascinating and always spot-on! A life path report coupled with an intuitive reading can provide significant clarity on your soul purpose.
Find a Life/Career Coach or Counselor. If this is all too woo woo for you, then I definitely recommend seeing a life coach or career coach! Coaches help you identify your strengths, mental blocks, interests, and goals to help you discover your next step. I’m a big fan of therapy too. Many counselors are trained in personality testing and can help you work through any issues that could be preventing you from living the life you were meant to live!
As you can see, there is no right or wrong way to discover your soul’s true purpose in this lifetime. The key takeaway to remember is to always connect with your True Self and listen to your heart. The answer may be right in front of you, it just may look simpler than you thought. Don’t disregard what your heart tells you just because it seems too easy or insignificant. The simple answer is usually the right answer.
I leave you with my favorite quote by the philosopher and poet Rumi, “What you seek, is seeking you.”
Love and blessings to you,
Ali
