As I was watering my plants today, I noticed how some flowers have really bloomed into beautiful and vibrant plants this past week. I keep thinking about how different and off-cycle the plants seem to be this year. So many are blooming much later than usual, and some haven’t bloomed at all. Even nature is feeling the weirdness going on in 2020!
Now, I am no master gardener, but I have been observing our plants’ and flowers’ growing patterns this year. This is our second summer in our new home in a new state so I’m still learning which plants grow well here and how to care for the plants and trees that were already in existence when we bought the house. It has been a bit of trial and error, that’s for sure!
But it dawned on me today how much more deadheading I have been doing this year, which I think has really helped the flowers grow into their full potential. It makes sense – you have to cut off the dead parts to make room for new growth. Not only do those parts look sad, but they take water and nutrients away from the healthy parts of the plant.
I feel like 2020 has been all about constantly deadheading our lives – releasing and clearing parts that no longer serve us and deplete us of our true health and vitality. This could be toxic jobs or relationships, homes, attachments, addictions, behavior patterns, emotions, the past, etc. Some of these losses were of your own choosing, but some may not have been. Some may have been devastating and very painful, but some may have come as a relief or felt like nothing at all. But seeing how beautiful my flowers have turned out gives me hope and faith that if we keep shedding the dead skin, soon a beautiful, healthy, and revitalized glow will appear.
This year has been all about preparing for a rebirth in every aspect of our existence – the planet, our culture, the government, school systems, and our own individual emotional, spiritual, and physical growth. We are all releasing and re-blooming at different times that may look different than past years. Facing your fears and dealing with such significant and constant change can be scary and difficult. But keep nurturing your whole being and giving yourself love. Take comfort that in the process you are building strength and courage and allowing yourself to shine your true light by clearing out all the unhealthy parts of your life that are stunting your growth.
There is a higher purpose for everything, and I believe we are going to come out of this more beautiful than we ever imagined!
Love and blessings to you,
Ali
